This person will assist with implementing environmental affairs initiatives in support of Starbucks' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategic plan. This is a new position within the CSR department and will report directly to the Environmental Affairs Manager. One method Starbucks uses to encourage company wide participation is the Green Team. This is a group of store managers from around North America that works together to identify ways to reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink our environmental practices, and is a vital part of the CSR department. This position coordinates and supports activities for the Green Team Regional Coordinators (GTRC). Activities include orientating new members and coordinating GTRC monthly conference calls and twice-yearly conferences. This position also provides support to the York (PA) Roasting Plant and Kent (WA) Roasting Plant Green Teams. The Environmental Affairs Specialist will also provide project management support to the Environmental Affairs Manager and Director on a wide variety of assignments and projects. Additional duties include: Assisting with the collection of data to be incorporated in the annual Corporate Social Responsibility report; conducting research and analysis on issues related to Starbucks' environmental affairs and business practices; coordinating Earth Day celebrations for Starbucks Partners in multiple locations; supporting the development of environmental communications for internal and external audiences; working with the Facilities and Property Management teams to develop, manage, and communicate a comprehensive recycling program for the Starbucks Support Center. Qualifications for this position include: Bachelor of Arts Degree in environmental studies, business or a related field; three years professional work experience; one year project management experience. Two years professional environmental management experience and knowledge of the coffee business or retail experience are preferred.
