From Nancy E. Apple, Mount Holyoke College, Safety and Environmental
Affairs, South Hadley, MA (forwarded by Sarah Grimm):

Does anyone have information on the life-cycle environmental impact of paper
cups used for fountain beverages versus beverages packaged in 16 oz. plastic
bottles? I did a Google search but did not find any information. And yes,
I know a reusable mug is preferable to both!

http://preference.the-dma.org/cgi/ddnc.php
    The Direct Marketing
Association (DMA) started this service in October, 2005, so that family
members, friends or caretakers can remove the names of deceased individuals
from commercial marketing lists. The DMA charges a $1 credit card fee for
registration. According to the DMA's website, "This charge (the $1 fee)
serves two important purposes: to make sure we have a permanent record of
the credit card information of those who did the registering; and to help
prevent misuse of, or fraud against, this system." When a deceased person
is registered with this list, the DMA places that person's name, address,
phone number and e-mail address in a special "do not contact file" that
direct marketers can use.
